Get drafted Friday. Sign Saturday? It was an entirely plausible scenario for the newest member of the Calgary Flames.

Drafted 13th overall Friday night by the Flames Friday night, Sven Bartschi’s agent was sent a contract offer from Calgary a day later, according to a tweet from Rob Kerr of The Fan 960.

His selection by the Flames didn’t shock the Swiss native.

“I just had an extra meeting here in Minnesota (Thursday), so I felt very confident after that meeting,” Bartschi said moments after being drafted.

Being asked to sign a day later likely was.

The quick contract offer may be a result of former top prospect Tim Erixson, drafted 23rd overall in 2009. Erixon refused to sign with the club as the deadline loomed. The move forced the Flames to eventually deal the Swedish defenseman along with a fifth round pick in exchange for two second round picks and Roman Horak.

Regardless, it seems as though Calgary’s newest top prospect is excited at the prospect of playing for Calgary.

“It feels amazing,” Bartschi said.
