His season is all but wrapped up, yet the accolades continue to pour in for Aleksander Barkov.
At just 17-year-old, Barkov was among the 54 players named to Finland’s preliminary roster for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
In his second season in the SM-liiga, Barkov recorded 21 goals and 48 points in 53 games and finished ninth in league scoring. He had his postseason cut short after a shoulder injury in quarterfinal action against HIFK.
The injury also forced Barkov to miss the World Under-18 Championship and the physical testing portion of the NHL Scouting Combine.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound pivot is fourth in Future Considerations’ final ranking for the 2013 NHL Draft.
