It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll. It’s also a long way down. Just ask Seth Ambroz.

Originally ranked seventh overall in Future Considerations’ preliminary ranking after potting 22 goals last season, the Omaha Lancers forward has tumbled out of first round projections for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. In fact, Ambroz is no lock to be among the top-60 picks on draft day in June.

The six-foot-two, 210-pound Ambroz currently sits 58th in March’s ranking.

Future Considerations’ chief scout Dan Stewart hasn’t been impressed by Ambroz, who is averaging fewer points-per-game than a season ago.

“(He’s) the biggest disappointment in my books as Ambroz had many a scout drooling two years ago when he first broke in with Omaha but has failed to keep developing since that time,” Stewart explained. “His physical size and strength has improved but his skating and work rate have stalled and could cause the promising power forward to drop like a rock on draft day.”

Ambroz has 21 tallies and 40 points in 49 games this season with six games remaining. While it’s likely he’ll establish a new career best in goals, he’ll have to push the pace to eclipse his mark of 49 from a season ago.

Regardless of the tear Ambroz can put together in the final weeks of the USHL season, it’s too late to climb back to the top.
